What is a Therapeutic coach anyway?

If you’ve ever found yourself searching in those early hours of the morning, looking for help but not sure where to go or what you need, you've probably ended up more confused than when you started. Sometimes there is just too much choice, which can really lead to overwhelm. People get stuck in the analysis paralysis of all the options.

If you're in a place where counselling feels too heavy, but just goal setting and a motivational "go go go" attitude feels too impersonal, and like something is missing, you're likely looking for something in between. A hybrid, if you like, and therapeutic coaching could be just the thing.

“What does a therapeutic coach do?” — You’re probably feeling a bit overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure what kind of support you actually need, and that makes sense.

The term therapeutic coaching can feel a bit unclear.

It’s not quite counselling, but it’s not quite coaching. So what is it?

A therapeutic coach supports you in understanding yourself on a deeper level, so things make sense for you while also helping you move forward in your life. It’s a blend of emotional support and gentle, practical change.

So rather than focusing on your past or only pushing you towards goals, you’re supported in both.

In my work, I don’t rush you forward or try to “fix” you. I sit with you in the reality of what you’re carrying — the mental load, the emotional weight, the constant pressure — and help you make sense of it. While moving steadily towards your desired destination, we navigate whatever bumps come along the way.

From there, we look at what needs to shift.

Not all at once and certainly not through pressure. In a way that actually feels manageable for you.

Because real change doesn’t come from being pushed -It comes from feeling safe enough to be honest. That's how you succeed.

What’s the difference between a therapist and a coach?

Therapy often focuses on emotional healing and processing past experiences, while coaching tends to focus more on goals and forward movement.

Therapeutic coaching brings those together — supporting both your emotional wellbeing and your next steps.

Who is therapeutic coaching for?

This kind of support is especially helpful if you feel:

  • overwhelmed or emotionally drained
  • stuck in patterns you can’t quite shift
  • like you’re holding everything together for everyone else

Many of the people I work with are carrying lots of responsibility or have been in survival mode for a long time. And at some point, something has to change. Therapeutic coaching can be the right modality of support to help you create changes in your life.
